Clause 10.1: General
Drawing on what performance evaluation shows, the organization identifies opportunities to improve and takes the actions needed for its OH&S management system to deliver what it is meant to deliver.
What clause 10.1 asks
Drawing on what performance evaluation shows, the organization identifies opportunities to improve and takes the actions needed for its OH&S management system to deliver what it is meant to deliver.
Improvement is a deliberate act, not the residue of fixing findings. The clause asks the organization to identify opportunities from performance evaluation and to take the actions that make the system deliver more.
Improve the arrangement, not only the paperwork. Remote work changes faster than a procedure review cycle. The improvement process should use the reports, the check-ins, the audit findings and the worker's suggestions to change the arrangement itself: the equipment, the rhythm of contact, the assessment method or the reporting route. The public record's emphasis on review as circumstances change supports a short improvement loop.
Basis: BSI, Arinite. For clause 10.1, the public record is a draft guideline and does not state a requirement in terms that this site can quote. The clause 10.1 overlay is our reading of the public scope and the named summaries, not the draft text.
Evidence for clause 10.1
An auditor will ask for an improvement that was not required by a finding, and for the measure that shows it worked.
- Improvement Improvement register drawing on audits, reviews, incidents and performance data
- Improvement Evidence actions implemented
Where clause 10.1 commonly fails
- Improvement limited to closing audit findings
What to do about clause 10.1 before the guidance lands
Keep a remote improvement register fed by reports, audits and check-ins. Add one improvement that no finding asked for, and show the worker participation in it. Record the change and the effect at the next review.
For clause 10.1, do the work that will be right under either instrument. The current requirement for clause 10.1 is ISO 45001:2018, and the certificate, if you hold one, is issued against it. The clause 10.1 remote working preparation is an extension of the existing duty to a group of workers the system already covers, not a new system and not a reason to rebuild around a draft.
