ISO/DIS 45008: what is known, and what is not
ISO/DIS 45008 is the first edition of the remote working guidelines. It is in the enquiry phase: the DIS ballot closed on 19 May 2026 and the committee now decides the next stage. It is not published, it cannot be certified against, its text is not public, and its clause structure is not stated on any page here. This page separates what the record proves from what a summary reports and what is our estimate.
| Field | Public record | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Designation | ISO/DIS 45008, Edition 1, 24 pages | ISO page 64363 |
| Title | Occupational health and safety management, Guidelines for remote working | ISO page |
| Committee | ISO/TC 283, Occupational health and safety management; Working Group 8 | ISO page; TC 283 project record |
| ICS | 13.100, Occupational safety; 13.180, Ergonomics | ISO page |
| Stage | 40.60 Close of voting, 19 May 2026 | ISO page |
| Ballot | DIS ballot initiated 23 February 2026, 12 weeks; close of voting 19 May 2026 | ISO page |
| Project start | 10.99 New project approved, 5 March 2024 | ISO page |
| Predecessor | None. This is the first edition of ISO 45008. | ISO page |
| Publication | No ISO publication date recorded. BSI says publication is expected in 2027. The planning date is the reader's, not an ISO date. | ISO page; BSI |
| Text | Not public. ISO sells the draft. The abstract, the scope note and the stage record are public. | ISO page; BSI project page |
| Certification | None. The draft is guidance, not a certifiable management system standard, and it does not replace ISO 45001:2018. | ISO page; BSI project page |
The ISO page records stage 40.60 but not the ballot result. Stages 40.92, 40.93 and 40.99 are listed without a date; 50.00, 50.60, 60.00 and 60.60 are not recorded. The site does not infer an outcome.
What the public scope covers
The BSI project page publishes the scope. The document gives guidelines for an organization to manage the health, safety and well-being at work of remote workers; it applies to any organization regardless of size, type and activities; it can be used independently or as part of an OH&S management system, including one based on ISO 45001; and it covers work at workplaces not under the direct control of the organization, whether the worker or the organization selects the workplace.
The ISO abstract adds the boundary: the document is intended for regular remote workers who perform remote work on a recurring basis and does not include offsite work and business trips. That is a narrower population than "anyone who has ever worked from home", and the free check applies it.
The 40 clauses, and the remote question each one raises
These are the ISO 45001:2018 clauses that apply today. The right-hand columns show the public 45008 theme that touches the clause and whether the point rests on the published scope or on a reported area. A blank would mean the public record does not support a point; there is no blank here, and the page says which basis applies.

ISO 45008 is not the ISO 45001 revision
Both documents are at stage 40.60 and both are expected in 2027, which is why buyers confuse them. They do different jobs. The revision of ISO 45001 is a second edition of the management system standard; it creates a certificate transition when it is published. ISO 45008 is new guidance for remote working; it does not replace ISO 45001 and creates no transition. A certificate held today is against ISO 45001:2018 either way.
| Question | ISO 45008 | ISO 45001 revision |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Guidance for remote working, first edition | Second edition of the management system standard |
| Stage | 40.60, close of voting 19 May 2026 | 40.60, ballot closed 9 September 2026 |
| Certifiable | No. Guidance only | Yes, when published, against the new edition |
| Creates a transition | No | Yes, when the transition arrangements are issued |
| What it changes | How the system reaches remote workers | The clause set a certificate is issued against |
If your question is the certificate transition, the ISO 45001 revision record covers it. If your question is the remote worker the system cannot see, this record covers that. The preparation on these pages is useful under either document.

The rules this is built from
Read from the real rules, not invented. The 40 clause-level records are the ISO 45001:2018 requirements, read from the standards library at the standards library: 146 evidence lines and 108 common failure lines, each cited to its clause. The remote working layer is read from the public ISO/DIS 45008 record, the BSI scope and the BSI consultation release. The draft text is not public and is not reproduced.
ISO 45001:2018, clause by clause
Each clause page states the requirement in our words, the evidence an auditor asks for, the common gaps and the remote working preparation.
